September Prayer Update

"The Lord turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?" Judges 6:14

*Special Note: This month, we are excited to bring you a prayer update written by Nohemy Vargas, a member of the newest AJS team, Brave Christians. Brave Christians gathers youth, families, and churches to pray for justice and peace in Honduras – whether that be over the radio or in front of government offices. As Nohemy’s team launches a new initiative, she wanted to share this devotional message with us all.

“Sometimes we doubt God’s goodness or ability to save us. But over the years, I have realized that even more frequently we doubt that we could be God’s answer to other people’s prayers for salvation. In the verse quoted above, God called Gideon to answer Israel’s prayer by fighting against the nation’s oppressors. Although at first Gideon was overwhelmed by fear and doubt, he ultimately decided to trust in God. God wants to save his people, and he searches for brave Christians who are willing to pay the price of leading struggles for justice.

We see this message of “going in the strength you have” again in the New Testament. Jesus instructed his disciples to ask the Heavenly Father for workers to collect the harvest, or carry out God’s mission in the world. And then, he sent them out as workers of the harvest. In the same way, Jesus tells us his plans and desires so that we may actively participate in them. For that reason, we thank you for participating in God’s work with us, and ask for your continued support in prayer.”

  • Praise God for bringing together key people to lead my team of Brave Christians, a network of prayer and advocacy. We thank God for opening doors within the media that have allowed us to call the church to live with integrity and justice.

  • Please pray for God to unite Honduran churches to be of one mind. Please pray that Christian families would live with integrity and wisdom and put away any violent and dishonest practices they have adopted.

  • Please pray for our upcoming meeting with Honduras’ Attorney General. Pray that God’s grace will fill the hearts of our team and that Hondurans will be encouraged by our work. Ask God to fill Honduras with hope, a hope that transforms the cynical hearts of the media and many citizens.
